Favorite Quote: The plot hadn’t really got going yet - a lot of backstory - but something exciting was going to happen soon. It had to: the title promised it.

Story Synopsis: Bel Price’s mom, Rachel, disappeared sixteen years ago. Now, age 18, Bel and Bel’s dad have agreed to be the subject of a documentary on Rachel’s disappearance. Harboring resentment toward her mother, Bel pushes people away and lives quietly with her dad, Charlie.

Until Rachel reappears.

The documentary pivots to dive into Rachel’s reappearance, but Bel is deeply suspicious. The timing is too perfect. Rachel arrives in the same clothes she disappeared in. And Rachel keeps making mistakes about her reappearance and how long she was gone. With her father stressed and distant from his wife’s reappearance, Bel does the only thing she can think of: solve the mystery of Rachel Price.

Why does this book beguile? I thoroughly enjoy Holly Jackson’s writing. I’ve read all her books: she’s quick, punchy, and doesn’t draw things out unnecessarily. The Reappearance of Rachel Price is, I think, Jackon’s best work yet. Bel is a believable character, and what she goes through is fascinating. It unfolds like a true-crime documentary, with the fun bonus of the behind-the-scenes pieces of knowing the film crew. The twists kept me anxious and turning the pages!
